WHO'S IN THE KITCHEN

WHAT'S ON THE MENU 

As a Category Manager, you will be responsible for the national procurement of a designated portfolio of grocery ingredients. Your goal will be to provide our Meal Experience and Culinary Teams with the highest quality ingredients to choose from at the greatest overall value. This position reports to the Senior Category Manager – Grocery.


  • Lead the procurement (entire source-to-pay process) of assigned grocery ingredients used in Blue Apron's recipes

  • Strategically develop and optimize your supplier network country-wide for category development and execution of competitive sourcing strategies with the goal of driving incremental value

  • Responsible for key performance indicators including supplier compliance with all safety / quality / regulatory specifications, on-time delivery of inbound supply shipments, and food cost per meal as well as service level, quality, cost, and sustainability metrics

  • Partner with Regulatory and Food Safety & Quality Assurance Leadership Teams to ensure all grocery suppliers are operating in compliance with all applicable regulations and Blue Apron policies

  • Partner with Culinary and Fulfillment Operations Leadership Teams to perform ongoing SKU rationalization / management efforts, to ensure Blue Apron operates with maximum efficiency, while also effectively fulfilling our customers' demand for variety

NECESSARY INGREDIENTS 


  • 3+ years purchasing or category management experience

  • Food industry experience

  • Proven track record of success in purchasing, pricing, and financial management

  • Outstanding negotiation skills

  • Comfortable making quick decisions with broad consequences

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively influence all levels of the organization

  • Proven track record of leadership experience, including effective management of multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong attention to detail, organization and time management skills

  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

  • Self-motivated, innovative thinker with a passion for food!

  • Excited to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
