WHAT’S ON THE MENU


The Senior Manager of Category Management - Produce will lead a team responsible for the procurement of all produce ingredients, with the goal of providing our Meal Experience and Culinary Teams with the highest quality ingredients to choose from, at the greatest overall value, when creating the amazing recipes we offer our customers. This position reports to the Category Director – Produce / Dry Goods / Dairy, and will be located at our one of our Fulfillment Centers (Linden, NJ / Richmond, CA), or at our company headquarters in New York, NY. 

 

     Lead a team of Procurement Managers and Buyers who are responsible for the procurement (entire source-to-pay process) of all produce ingredients used in Blue Apron’s recipes

     Ultimately responsible for key performance indicators including supplier compliance with all safety / quality / regulatory specifications, on-time delivery of inbound supply shipments, and food cost

     Partner with Regulatory and Food Safety & Quality Assurance Leadership Teams to ensure all produce suppliers are operating in compliance with all applicable regulations and Blue Apron policies

     Provide coaching / guidance to Category Managers to ensure complete and actionable specifications exist for all ingredients and are consistently enforced and reinforced with effective supplier communication

     Create / Update standard operating procedures for the onboarding of new ingredients and suppliers, in an effort to promote operational efficiency and enhanced flexibility

     Partner with Operations and Engineering Teams to establish “make vs. buy” guidelines for Category Managers to follow, when executing bulk purchase / individual pre-packed ingredient transactions, that effectively balances the use of internal assets vs. leveraging suppliers’ capabilities, to lower holistic costs

     Develop and execute competitive sourcing strategies, driving incremental value

     Accountable for the overall performance of Blue Apron’s portfolio of produce suppliers including service (timeliness and completeness of deliveries), quality, cost, and sustainability

     Partner with Culinary and Fulfillment Operations Leadership Teams to perform ongoing SKU rationalization / management efforts, to ensure Blue Apron operates with maximum efficiency, while also effectively fulfilling our customers’ demand for variety  

 

NECESSARY INGREDIENTS 


     Demonstrate a love of food and passion for people, incredible customer service, and performance excellence

     Minimum of 7-10 years of produce experience and experience with team management

     Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Finance, or food business-related discipline; MBA preferred

     Food industry experience with a focus on produce including fresh cut

     Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to lead multiple functions and strategic initiatives simultaneously

     High level of business / financial acumen, with a broad level of expertise in fundamental procurement functions

     Outstanding negotiation skills

     Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively influence all levels of the organization

     Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

     Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
