Blue Apron’s Packaging & Innovation Team is responsible for the physical touch-point of the Blue Apron experience. The team tackles complex challenges across the organization and is made up of designers, engineers, researchers, food scientists, and strategists. We’re a lean, tight-knit, and empathetic bunch

This is a 6-12 month contract assignment.  As a key member of the Blue Apron’s Packaging Innovation team, the Sr Test Engineer will lead the testing processes involved with cold chain systems, packaging materials and finished packages. The Test Engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with multiple departments to understand functional, food safety, cost, customer experience and regulatory requirements to validate given package.



  • Own mission critical package testing to maintain the integrity of our product
  • Lead small and large scale packaging tests from ideation through execution
  • Lead the physical and analytical testing of packaging materials to validate package performance
  • Lead temperature testing to validate and qualify cold chain packaging systems
  • Develop real-time temperature monitoring strategies to simulate a precise temperature profile
  • Utilize simulation and CFD software’s to mimic thermal performance
  • Maintain and advance testing equipment and laboratory
  • Make recommendations, test theories, and build advanced visuals using large data sets
  • Organize and analyze complex data sets. Present findings in a clear, concise, visually pleasing manner to leadership team
  • Conduct packaging optimization testing to support the development and commercialization of future packaging
  • Develop SOPs and documentation library for regulatory compliance
  • Automate temperature monitoring processes to maximize testing output
  • Identify CI opportunities in current-state packaging and processes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within the business to achieve project goals



  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in developing test procedures and executing them.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device cold chain management strongly preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of thermodynamics and strength of materials
  • Experience in CFD modeling is a plus
  • Must be familiar with executing tests based on ASTM and ISO standards
  • Strong Excel and general analytical skills: knowledge of how to manipulate data and create insights from data
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and statistics to solve problems and make data-based decisions
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with individuals at every level of the organization
